Dark Souls II was announced at Spike Video Game Awards on December 7, 2012.^[6]^[7] Hidetaka Miyazaki, who served as director onDemon's Souls and Dark Souls,^[8] acted as a supervisor, while the game was directed by Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura.^[8]Miyazaki stated there will be no direct story connection between Dark Souls and Dark Souls II, though they are set in the same world.^[9] The game uses dedicated multiplayer servers.^[9]
